Safety and purity concerns
One of the problems with sugar supplementation is that in most papers reporting the use of sugar nutritional therapy, the source (supplier) and brand of the sugar used for the treatment is not detailed. Also, the sugar’s brand and source might not be the same in every country and the sugar might not be pure. Also, several companies offer “over the counter” sugars and nutritional supplements. This can lead to different results in the treatment and safety concerns, especially if the sugars are contaminated with toxic compounds (e.g., metals).
To make sure that the treatment is the same for all patients and that there are no safety risks, the sugar should be pure and the composition should be similar among different brands.
